Herr said the trails promote fitness, and give a nod to the history of downtown drivers.

“Now, people know how long it takes them to walk a mile,” she said. “They can do it on their lunch break.”

She said City Council passed an ordinance outlawing the “shoot the loop” fad some time ago, because traffic would get so backed up on Center and Church streets.

Warr-Cummings also said downtown was the place to hang out for teenagers several decades ago.

“They would especially hang out at the city parking lot,” she said. “The police liked it, because they knew where the kids were.”

Thomas Bach frontrunner to fill in the big shoes of Rogge

Bach, an IOC vice-president three times since becoming a member in 1991, may lay heavy emphasis on the athlete’s requirements but he got a rude shock when as a very young boy he and his parents differed over his sporting preferences — the result of which was to prove a life changer.
